Give Introduce interesting vocabulary that students would enjoy saying, such as ap’scikâhkâkîs (magpie)
and ôhô (owl).
After students are introduced to the syllabics chart and pronunciation, they sing the “Syllabics Song” through echo practice. Encourage students to make hand gestures along with the sounds given in the song.

Kakepatisit (kah kee paht sit) – being foolish/crazy
Kihtey-ay-ak mistahi pahpowak (kih tee ya yak mis ta hi pah poo wak) – The Elders laughed a lot
Ki-moci-kihtan ci? (ki mo chi kih tan chi) – Did you have fun?
Ni-moci-ki-yun! (ni mo chi ki yun) – I sure had fun
Wisakeycaw/Wisahkechak (we sahk key caw/ we sahk key chak) – trickster
