Blogging the rewards of a new Education Assistant by Mr Ivan McKenzie

Kapawe’no First Nation – Life as a new EA in Kapawe’no First Nation School has been interesting and very rewarding.
The best part that I enjoy the most is working with the students to explore their creative sides. Walking a class down to the road down to the road and helping the students with cameras to find an object and try to find a perspective that makes the object look unique. Helping a student with their collages and making special and unique fonts for their names.

I would go through fonts that I had on my computer and the students would pick out the font that they like. I would have the students to select the colour or colours that they wanted and print them out for their collage. Even when I am working on computers or on a different project, students would come up to me and ask me what I am doing. I would tell them what I am doing and expand the conversation into ideas on how to think of a subject in a different light.

I would show how a simple finger drawing on the computer and change and manipulate to make the imagine look completely different with vibrant colours and designs. I know that there is a lot of challenges and development in this school. I can wait to help grow and expand this school and encourage the student to see beyond the horizon.
