Kapawe’no First Nation – On September 4th, 2023, staff and students assembled for a volleyball match to honor our missing, murdered Indigenous women, girls, and two-spirited. Led by the senior girls, tobacco was offered as a traditional offering to set the tone for the competition between the girls and the staff. Played in alignment with Nêhiyawak principles, the match reflected the balanced way of life.
The staff clinched the first match, while the girls took the second. Ultimately, the tiebreaker went to the teachers. Organized by the school’s sports academy, the event was a positive and uplifting experience for everyone involved.
On this day, we honor those who are making strides to protect our nation. As Muskwak, it is our duty to step up and ensure their safety at all times.
