Kapawe’no First Nation Expands Accredited Education Programs

October 9, 2023

Kapawe’no First Nation – We continue to break new ground in educational development. Earlier in 2023, the Nation expanded its educational scope by inaugurating Kapaweno College. Now, the Nation has further strengthened its commitment to educational excellence with the accreditation of Buffalo Bay Academy by Alberta Education, under the school code 2351.

This latest achievement brings the total number of Alberta Education-accredited schools within Kapawe’no First Nation to four, each offering a rigorous academic curriculum deeply embedded with LAW (Land, Air, Water) and fire teachings. This accomplishment comes as no surprise, as the Kapawe’no School Authority has been operating accredited schools for the past three years, consistently expanding its high-quality programming.

With this dual focus on traditional teachings and academic rigor, Kapawe’no First Nation is setting new standards for First Nations education across Turtle Island. The accreditation is more than a formal endorsement; it’s a celebration of a holistic knowledgeable approach to education that beautifully marries Nêhiyawak traditions with contemporary academic standards.

Congratulations Kapawe’no First Nation on this significant milestone, a testament to your dedication to fostering a uniquely enriched educational environment.
