At Kapawe’no Nêhiyawak School and Buffalo Bay Academy, we believe in nurturing the whole person—both mind and body. To recognize and encourage this balance, our Physical Education and Sports Academy selects two standout student-athletes each week: one male and one female from both schools.
The honor is not just about physical prowess or skill in sports; it’s about embodying the values that our Nation holds in high regard. These values include commitment, dedication, consistent attendance, and a deep-seated respect for others. The chosen athletes become role models for their peers, exemplifying the essence of our seven grandmother and grandfather teachings.
This tradition kicks off every October and runs through the end of the academic year. It’s a time-honored way to spotlight students who excel in both academics and athletics, fostering a well-rounded educational experience.
By celebrating these athletes, we not only encourage individual achievement but also fortify the bonds within our school and Nation. This great initiative serves as a reminder that striving for excellence, in all its forms, is a journey worth undertaking.
